workin at apple...

so my new job is pretty ok. i actually really like it. feel like a huge nerd to say that, but eh... one awkward part is that there are at least 5 or 6 gay guys... (ha, so i'll fit right in... good one. think of a new joke...)
but today, a lady came in and she had a pretty decent accent. I thought to myself, "I know that accent," so I said, "Er du Danske?"
yeah, to make a long story short, i stumbled through my danish and then we reverted to english, but it made my day...
guess i'm just a gay, apple-eployed, eruo-junkie...
(seriously, if no one has a good gay joke about this, i might start to question our friendships...)

what do you think about this?

Usually i'm a big fan of the green house effect...the warmer the better. But today I read an report from a gathering in Bali, where politicans from all over the world gathered to discuss climate changes and solutions fr the problem. The only country that didn't agree on setting a REAL goal for how much we shall decrease our polution in a soon future is USA. Earlier Buch's followers also wanna change the way we measure each country's polution from size of population to size of land(if i got it right), which is only benefiting one country-USA and is hindering countries like India and China to develop. You know me, i'm not even into politics and i'm definitly pro-america. But it's something in this that really upsets me. Is CASH the only thing our dear Bush thinks about? Where is his Christian values when it matters? Is the preasure from the american industries so heavy on him so he can't rule the country? I'm interested to hear what you guys think....

coffee shop

So I got a second job in the mornings, 16.5 hrs a week. It's at this great little coffee and tea shop and I've always wanted to work at a coffee shop. I've worked 3 days so far, and I love it! Everyone that works there is really sweet, friendly and laid back. I have to work at the other job - which I also like alright - to pay the bills and for the benefits... this second job's just for fun!

A couple of weeks into the semester I start to get used it. Lessons, homework and papers to write. There are a lot of new people to talk to and hang out with. But the best thing with school must be the chicks. It didn't take me long to understand that i applied for the right education. Can someone tell me why so many hot girls are studying economy???? It sure keeps me motivated to study...or at least show up for class.

woot!

I just found out I got the apartment I wanted! It's in the basement of a nice old house in a nice, historical part of town, close enough to all the important things (grocery store, library, coffee shops, YMCA) that I can take my bike most places and save on gas. It's small, the kitchen is miniscule, but it's got windows and is pretty bright for a basement. And I really wanted to be in a house rather than an apartment building. AND they even had a bed and some other furniture they're leaving down there for me to use so I don't have to buy much! I start moving in tomorrow!

my conversation with AJ

Does this conversation surprise you?

11:02 PM me: good. what's been new lately
AJ: not much, working more. started MMA training... just to stay in shape
and cause it fun. ;)

11:03 PM me: ;)
so what does the training entail?
11:04 PM AJ: well you have seen UFC fights right
me: yeah

AJ: thats what it is. You train in: boxing, Eskrima, brazilian Jui-jitsu, muay thai and a few others

11:05 PM me: how many times a week you working on this now
AJ: i try and go 3 -4 times a week
11:06 PM only a few hours a day. not too much

me: how many guys work out with you?
11:07 PM AJ: um probably 4 -5 other fighters
me: the wifey likes this too???

11:08 PM AJ: yeah she think its cool, she just doesn't wan to actually watch me fight. lol. but she is going to start self defense classes here soon
11:09 PM me: you need to frigen tape that so i can see it
thats gotta be awesome

AJ: lol... yeah she is going to come up there one day while im training to take some photos
11:10 PM it seriously is alot of fun. and man does it keep you in shape

11:11 PM me: I am sure it has too! When is your first fight?

11:12 PM AJ: not for sure yet... in oklahoma its kinda weird... there are different promoters and they set them up... right now i have had 2 fights that aren't big name, they just guys from other places....
and we did it there...
i want to make sure i have it down before stepping in to the ring with some dude who knows to kill for fun

11:14 PM me: yeah, seriously.

AJ: but so far... its hurts.
ha ha...

me: That seems like it makes life interesting!

11:15 PM AJ: yeah it does. but the art behind everything is amazing. i love it. learning how all things fighting forms and stlyes came about, and where they came from is great

11:16 PM and the really cool thing is it becomes natural. so your body just reacts and defends or attacks no matter what... its really interesting

me: dang. your a jake bauer aren't you
jack*

AJ: ha ha... not even close

11:21 PM me: Well, be sure to keep me updated. I am heading to bed. Long day ahead of me to get ready!

AJ: yeah man for sure. be safe

all in a day's work

The other day at work on the phone with a customer, I unwittingly called a gentlemen - one Mr. Aubrey Something-or-other - "Ma'am" three times throughout the conversation. Each time, I said "Thank you, ma'am" and when he responded "It's sir" I thought he was saying "Sure". Finally I caught on, "Uh, sorry sir". Hey, you can't blame me - his name was Aubrey and anyway, all old people sound alike on the phone, be they male or female.

Seriously....people get so serious about their TV's. Like the one kid, sounded like he was in his twenties, who had two large screen High-def TV sets and DirecTV receiver boxes...in one room (not to mention the multiple other sets around the house). He was a football fan, of course.

And to one guy I said the soonest a tech could come out and check out his stuff was in 5 days, and he thought I was kidding. "THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!" he raged. IT'S A TV! I wanted to holler back, GO OUTSIDE FOR A CHANGE!

Anyway, yesterday I started my 4pm - 1am shift.
Late night TV watchers are....odd folks. Especially the enebriated ones. I'm sure I'll have more stories about Them.

Anyway, enjoying the music file, Mandie, thanks.
Enjoy your day's off, Andy, you sneaky bastard.
Nolan, I forgot to text and tell you I used you as a reference on an application to volunteer at the YMCA. Hope you don't mind...
Hannah...kiss Abe for me, I'm still waiting until he's old enough to date.
Daniel....where you be?

way to go, dummy...

so i'm at school right now. thought i had to be here for a student teaching orientation. after all, i'm going into education...
yup definitely don't have to be here. i thought i had to, so i got off of work and everything for today and tomorrow.
looks like i got a day or two off...

Prison Break Season 3

If you want to watch part of the first show of Prison Break, go here.

8.21.2007

I know. You thought that I was dead.

Soooo, I haven't been on here in FOR-E-VER. The wireless at my house hasn't been working for the last 2 months so, I have to go somewhere else to get online and it's just a pain in the butt. It's working now though so I will be back on. I had to go back and get caught up on all your news.

Things are crazy here. I went to St. Louis a couple of weeks ago to lead worship for a conference. I got to stay in the same house as the speaker for the conference, Billy Humphrey. This guy is the director of the only other 24/7 IHOP and it's in Atlanta. So, I led worship, he spoke and he was awesome. I was taking him to the airport and he turns to me and says, "So, will it take a dream or an angel at the end of your bed to get you to come to Atlanta?". I was like, "What?" He told me that he wanted me to come and be one of his main worship leaders, that he would give me six, two hour worship sets a week to lead, a full team and have me do all of the worship for their weekend services. I was so shocked. I didn't even know what to say. I had only met this guy three days earlier and he was asking me to leave Kansas City and come to Atlanta.

I had a lot to think about after that weekend, obviously. I have been praying and seeking the Lord about it and I really think that it's not the right timing. The Lord has had me in this place for the last 8 months of being hidden. He has been tearing out everything fleshly and prideful and every ungodly desire to be seen by man that I discovered was rooted deep in me. It's made me really look at my motives for doing what I do as a worship leader. In this time the Lord has taken away every opportunity for me to lead worship, sing and play except for once a week with an intern class. It's been really hard, but really good. There are days that I am so full of envy and jealousy because others are being seen and favored and exalted and I'm not, and there are days that I can't quit thanking God for His goodness in putting me through this because every once in awhile He will let me see the fruit of it. Like for the conference, I have never had the Word flow out of me so easily when leading worship as it did then. I know that this time is going to be so vital to my ministry in the long run. To have this reality embedded in me as a worship leader, I will be able to go leaps and bounds compared to where I would have been without it. I think that the offer to go to ATL was more the Lord showing that I still have His favor and anointing to lead and it was Him saying, "I still see you, I'm still establishing you and I'm still working a good thing in you." he reminded me of a dream that I had before I went to KC. I dreamed that I was getting ready to lead worship and the room was full of people. I got up on stage and started to get ready to play and this huge, thick, red curtain kept falling in front of me and covering up me and the piano up. I kept trying to sing and play, but no one could see or hear me because of the curtain. I was so frustrated. I was completely blocked and hidden from view. I remember that Lea Nielsen actually ended up getting up on stage and leading worship. After reminding me of this dream the Lord said, "This is what your time in KC has been."

Yeah. Well, I guess that's it. High five to you if you actually read all of this, I know that it was long. I know that Nolan and Jaralei probably will, but I don't know about Andy. He's a little too A.D.D. for a long post like this.

Alrighty. I love you guys and miss you with all of my heart. Lets hang out tomorrow night ok? My house. I'll fire up the grill and bring the tiki torches, Nolan and Hannah you bring the burgers, Andy you bring the beer, Daniel you got a good hold on the tequila as always and Jaralei you bring the chocolate.

It's a date.

You love Taco Bell.

youlovetcobell_1
So, I need your help...

I ask because you want to help me!
I need you to buy a large or extra large drink from Taco Bell for the next month whenever you are thirsty...

Why... well, because there is a code on it and I am trying to win the Grand Prize to head to the World Series ;)

So yeah, but the drinks and send me the codes!!! PLEASE....

the storm

So we survived a tornado friday night.
I was at work, and we were all in the hallways and bathrooms, but my parents were driving home and got caught in it. There was prob more damage from flash floods than the tornado itself. There were 8 inches of rain in an hour, and the road washed away so my parents were stranded. They got to some high ground and waited it out and were able to drive home, then, but just barely because the road was all washed away. I couldn't make it in my little car, so had to stay in town. Hermosa, the little town closest to us, was under 10 feet of water and houses were floating away. This one house was floating away but it was fine until a car hit it! Softball sized hail destroyed cars and houses, trees were down all over the place. On the road to our place a big old shed got picked up by the tornado and landed a ways up the road on the fence. I haven't even seen all the damage yet, though, because I didn't get home til last night after it was dark. Horses and cows drowned, but thankfully no people died. My Dad was on the news because a reporter came up to this area and was interviewing people about their experience. Their car had some hail damage, but they didn't get hit with the softball sized ones, and our driveway is a bit washed away, and our floors are a litle wet, but other than that we didn't get any of the bad damage that some people did.

It's crazy that we have this drought for the longest time, then we get 8 inches of rain in an hour!

Anyway....that was exciting.

Please pray for my mom. she's been having problems the last couple of weeks with her heart, and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital tonight. symptoms seem to point to a heart attack. just...please pray for her protection and healing. That either 1) God will heal her completely, or 2) the drs. will be able to understand what the problem is, and give the correct resolution, and that this will NOT be an ongoing problem, but that she will be able to come home tomorrow without worrying about a recurrence. 8.04.2007

maybe i' shouldn't have laughed...

so today at work, roughly 7 minutes after opening... (wait for it)... we got robbed!
not even kidding...
thing is, i didn't even know it happened. it was so subtle. the butler from "Mr. Deeds" would have been proud: "Very sneaky, sir." yeah, the guy came up and said that he was robbing the girl who, by the way is 8 1/2months pregnant, and she gave him a couple hundred bucks in cash. seriously, not even worth it.
when i was told, my eyes widened and a little chuckle came out. i said, "this is so exciting!"
other people didn't see it my way...

so today on my lunch break, i typed up my resignation letter...
it finally got to the point where i just couldn't handle it any more. it's kinda sad that i'm not a stronger person, but i realize how adversely the bank actually affects me. seriously, been feeling fairly depressed for at least the last month. and maybe the bank isn't the sole reason for that, but i know it doesn't help.
so i'm looking for a new job. gonna check out this book store by me, a gym, and a grocery store (sadly to say, even though it is one of those "higher-end" stores),
so yeah, i could really use a lot of prayer.
still feeling pretty sad about random stuff...

Learn Chinese. No Time.

Hey... Mandie,

Do you know who a Leland and Sherry McMullen is, who lives in Osage City Kansas? It's a long shot but they gave us a little money, sent it straight to AG and we can't figure out who it is. Just thought I'd ask.

Jim & Casper GO TO CHURCH

Ok, so I get my Relevant Kit this month, and there are once again many books, so I finally took one to work to start reading. I choose this one and it's been an interesting read. I really would like you guys to read it and tell me how you enjoyed it.

Book Description

Jim Henderson pays people to go to church. In fact, he made national news when he "rented" a soul for $504 on E-Bay after its owner offered an "open mind" to the highest bidder. In Jim & Casper Go to Church, Hendrson hires another atheist--Matt Casper--to visit ten leading churches with him and give the "first impression" perspective of a non-believer. What follows is a startling dialogue between an atheist and a believer seeing church anew through the eyes of a skeptic, and the development of an amazing relationship between two men with diametrically opposing views of the world who agree to respect each others’ space. Foreword by George Barna.
FEATURES:

* Unique perspective of both Christian and atheist on the church & Christians in the USA
* Intelligent and respectful, seeking dialogue between key characters
* Helps the Christian understand the change in attitudes and actions required when shifting from defending the faith to defending "sacred space"--from talking to listening, from strength to weakness, from debate to dialogue, from manipulation to intentionality

7.17.2007

Hi.

Hey ya'll. I been quiet on here so I just wanted to say hey. I been having some thoughts lately I wanted to write, but just haven't found the time to sit and write them. I just been really happy with life lately. I feel like I have jumped ahead 5 years looking back at now wishing I would of enjoyed life more, but in all reality I am doing and feeling just that. Just a few nights ago Hannah and I were sitting down at the lake and all I could do was give God thanks for that moment. I been trying hard to make sure I enjoy it to the fullest while it is here. This summer is different than any other I have experienced but one I will never forget by far. I am just wanting to make sure these last few weeks go slowly.

Hey Mandie, did you ever talk to your dad about the church supporting Hannah and I?

Love ya all.

Here is Your Sign

So, the lake association here never decides to do the 4th on the 4th so instead we had fireworks tonight. one of the traditions of the lake here is if you are on the lake association then you get a flare to put at the end of the dock a few minutes before the main event to show everyone on the lakes patriotism or something.

IMG_2131
so, before we are to set them up, my grandfather precedes to tell me how to set it up and where not to set it up. ( now I have done this a few times before, but granted I listen to him, to show I care ) Anyways, he tells me not to put a flare on the dock cause once before he had sparks leave marks on the dock or side boats before. Well, in my head I already had it set out that the flare was going on the dock and I knew just how I was going to set it up because I was smarter than he was.

As we return from the firework display on the other side of the lake we notice that the dock is aflame. The left side of the end section was completely burning. We had to rush to find water to kill the fire. There was smoke everywhere. We couldn't believe it!

I share this because I wanted to let you know how disappointed I was in our neighbor that no-one put the fire out! Seriously. ( I surely didn't do anything assonine. )

So Hannah said that she was at a Levi store and they were having mad crazy deals. So I went online and found the sale... actually it seems that the mens section is cheaper online and the ladies are cheaper in some cases in stores. But crazy deals. Andy you might like some of the jeans. I think I am going to pick out some...

I made it, I'm alive, even after 28 hours on the road. And I went to the Dr.here and my foot isn't broken, just torn ligaments.

And I'm hanging out at the lake with my brother and his friends today, and that just rocks.

Tak for praying!

screwed

Ohhh guys. I don't know what to do, my plans seem to be falling apart, I can't seem to listen to God, I don't know if I'm suppose to keep on trying to do what I'm doing or if I'm going the wrong way altogether, and I'm having a hard time believing that everything's going to be OK when it doesn't seem to matter whether I pray or not because things just go however the hell they're going to go anyway.

I'm a little screwed up.

back from Mexico

Yes, back today from Mexico. It was GREAT!
...except, as you can see, for the last day when I was riding boogie board, chasing it really, in the Gulf and broke my foot in two places.

Weird how I've never broken any body parts in my entire life, and now in the span of 4 months I've broken two. Makes ya wonder. Is God trying to tell me something, or is it just "one of those things"?

Anyway, so I can't drive home quite yet, Andy...I'll e-mail ya.

Pictures later!

you guys, i swear that i was on candid camera tonight.

so, i'm in st. louis for a week on a support raising trip and tonight i went with my aunt and my grandma to the cardinals game. it was last call for beer and so the vendors were making their rounds and being a little extra pushy. this one vendor comes and stands right next to me. i hadn't seen this guy all night and we had been there for three hours. strange. he was white, scrawny, had a fro like napoleon dynamite, and was carrying around this huge case of beer. so, like i said he is standing right next to me in the aisle. i look up and he is drooling all over himself. he starts shouting "who-th's weddy?" "who need-ths a bee-ewe be-thides me?" "you're dwinking, i'm dwiving!" he was saying all the things vendors usually say when trying to sell a beer, but he was lisping it and slurring all his words. you guys... he was totally mentally retarded, or at least acting like it. seriously, he was drooling all over his shirt and chin and was talking just like we talk when we pretend to be retarded. it was everything in me not to laugh until he finally moved on.

yep.

hannah and i just saw this and i am not sure how i feel about it. i am really curious to what you all say about it. i won't post much, but i will say if the movie is any indicator where i culture is on certain issues i am not sure i feel so good in my tummy.

on a lighter note, we are in chicago tonight. schamburg actually. i love chicago.

I'm, like, human again

I gots me a car today!
Driving a car that's actually my own since first leaving for Denmark.
It's not a "cool" car - it's a '98 Honda Civic EX - but it does have an alright sound system the previous owners installed, and a sun roof. Aaaand I was going more for reliable and gas-friendly at this point. So I'm happy. OK, really happy. I got in one weekend what I was afraid would take weeks of driving all over the place checking out cars to get. God is gooooood!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY!!!!!!

frustrating times with andy...

so today, i got outta work at 2 and was going to go up to my new place to get my keys, take pics, and drop some things off. i sat around waiting for my landlord to call like he said he would. four hours later, i decided to call him. he doesn't answer. i wait a bit longer, still no answer. finally around 6:30 or 6:45, i get ahold of him.
oh, he's out of town.
great!
so he tells me to call his son who is handling everything. can't get ahold of the son.
wiat around til a little after 7 and say screw it and drive home.
i'm just about home and suddenly, there is a cop blocking my way and not letting anyone past. i couldn't tell why, but he felt the need to send me another 10 minutes out of my way...
yeah, it was an obnoxious day...
i hope i can move (somewhat) tomorrow.
at least i'm leaving for mexico...

my digits

605-391-3689

You can't text me, and I share minutes so it's best if, unless it's pretty important, I use it to make/receive calls after 9PM my time or weekends.

I'm still looking for a car, and I've decided where I want to work once I get home because it's a good paying job (for my area), so I can at least work there until I can afford an apartment, get on my feet and figure out what I really want to do next with my life. I'm pretty confident I should be able to get the job, because it's the same company my dad works for, and the same office he use to work in, and they liked him there. Plus, my dad was like "You're a LOT smarter than a lot of the people they've hired!" Heh, now that's just gonna suck if I don't get the job, thanks Dad. I just hate filling out applications or writing resume's, because I was homeschooled, went to a Master's Commission (whatever the H that is), and worked as a...what, for the past year and a half. It takes so much brain freakin' effort to make that sound not at all backwards and lame to other people.

Osh aye, it's 82 degrees stil here at dark o'clock in the evening. I'm going for a run. Anyone want to come? Hannah? No? OK, see ya'll about.

Andy? ..... Are you in your bed?

Soooo, yay Andy! I'm glad that you are getting your own place. It'll be great. And now you can have SLEEP OVERS. Woot woot! I'm posting to tell you all that I am also moving... back to Denmark.

pfft. yeah, right. I wish.
No, I am moving into this incredible house that is only going to cost me $75 more a month than I am paying right now for my 2 bedroom apartment. AND I GET MY OWN BED. Praise the Lamb that was slain. You guys should see this place. It look like something out of a pier 1 catalog. It's a three level house with garage and full basement. The landlord asked me what my favorite color was and I told her green and she said that she would pick up tons of green decor and a green comforter for me. I dont have to pay for any of it! I'm reeling actually. I cant believe it. Also, we have a super nice fire place and in the basement they are putting in a huge game and entertainment room with a coffee bar. They are also putting in a couple sets of bunk beds for when people spend the night. So, you guys can all come and stay with ME. All of this is going to be done in two weeks and then I move in the last week of June. I'll post pictures soon as well.

I miss you all like mad. Jaralei... I dont know how the frick to get a hold of you. i accidently texted your phone again the other day without thinking. I was going to tell you to just keep my support check from May and that will be my pitch in for all the beer that you paid and arm and a leg for.

Also, you guys can watch the prayer room here for free for three days or something. I sing on Mondays 10p and on Tuesdays 8p. You will get to see me! Just go here .

Ok. Done.

Elijah

So Elijah came over after church today for a while and I made him spaghetti for lunch and since he's allergic to milk I asked him if he wanted some juice. His favorite juice is apple juice so I gave him a glass of that... so weird, I've never seen him drink juice like that before, and then he got sick, so maybe he drank it too fast??

Another cute thing he did was during service the worship leader was sharing some things because his dad just died this week and he was talking about how good God is and he said "I don't know if any of you needed to hear this...." and Elijah instantly screams " I DO!!!!"

turning pt.

as the days were coming to an end I really actually wanted to sit down with everyone to actually have a little time where we could of prayed for each other. but as my mind wandered more and more on the idea I never found the words to actually say it.

it wasn't anything big or anything I just thought it would of been nice. of course I wasn't going to leave the week without ending with pray but as I started to pray before you left an overwhelming emotion overcame me. I really had to fight not to get emotional. At the moment I didn't know what was so consuming that this emotion was so vivid and strong.

well as the night has gone on I have tried to reflect on it more and more. right now I find myself in the corner of the house I usually never sit in and I have some new "worship" music playing and I feel alone with God and I am just reading letting thoughts flow how ever they want.

in this moment right now I feel a freshness I haven't felt in a while. it's like after praying today a revived drive has been re-birthed in me. i am not sure I can completely put it into words but it's a really great night for me.

there were many times today when you left where I replayed conversations I have had with each of you. i stand in awe of the journeys I have found myself on with you at different places of our lives. the moments where those journeys have connected are ones I will never forget. and the roads I have spent with each of you alone are roads that have truly shaped my life.

this week has brought good about in my life and I just wanted to thank you. ironic as that may seems as we light weight drunkards laughed our way through the week ;) but the presence of friends brought out something truly desirable.

well, I should be going to bed...

till next time.

gæstebog

So we forgot to have you four sign our danish guestbook. This moment isn't coming back again, so I am going to send it to each of you. I will put in postage so you can send it to the next person. We really want you guys to sign it and put your thoughts down.

So, on this post comment your addresses where I can send it. I will send to you first Jaralei since your living accommodations aren't going to stay the same in the future.

So, hook me up with it so I can send this thing out.

Hope you all made it home in good time.

and that's all she wrote

Well I got my answer. Today I packed up and left. My cousin came and helped me throw all my stuff into garbage bags, and my aunt came later on to get me and... I pretty much felt like I was in an episode of Alias: "PLan B! We need an emergency extraction!" "Roger that, proceed to extraction point at 0500 hours!" We accomplished the impossible task of getting all my stuff cleaned out BEFORE my boss got home - the most important part.

It all happened so fast, I can't grasp it yet, or catch my breath. All I feel right now is relief, and excited to be away and be with you guys.

Thanks for the prayers.

And at least the 'intervention' wasn't necessary, Nolan, although I appreciated the thought! :-)

Banned Video from Conference.

Got this from my Relevant subscription:
Because this week’s newsletter story is on the topic of church planting, we’d thought we’d link to this video from Mars Hill pastor Mark Driscoll. The video was actually banned from being handed out at a church planting conference because Bill Hybels disagreed with some of its message. You can read Driscoll's explanation and see the video for yourself here ...

prayer requests

I really am unbelievably excited about Saturday, really it's like Christmas. But I have to get through the rest of this week with a lot on my plate and on my mind, and I could use your prayers for a few things:

1)Due to several factors, I'm writing a note to my boss tonight letting him know I'm considering leaving the first of June rather than August. I'm not all that needed here anymore - as he let me know today - with Elena gone and the boys being out of school for the summer... there's not much reason for me to stay the summer. My Mom says she thinks my sticking to my 'I'll stay til August' decision is out of stubbornness now, and I'm just not sure myself. Anyway, after praying I've decided I'll leave the letter a bit ambiguous, and based on his reaction to it tomorrow make my decision. Please pray that I have clarity and wisdom.

2)I need a car! IF I do end up leaving June, I'm going to need a car that is reliable to drive me home. It's not smart to drive an unfamiliar car on such a long trip.

3)My wrist is not healing well. I definitely need physical therapy, but without insurance I can't afford it. I'm hopefully going to meet up with a girl from the church here who is a physical therapist that might be able to help me. Pray that I can see her before I come, and that my wrist heals properly.

Thanks!
I hope you guys have a great week, and see you soon

Love

Sinkhole

tophole
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - A 330-foot-deep sinkhole killed at least two teenagers as it swallowed about a dozen homes early Friday and forced the evacuation of nearly 1,000 people in a crowded Guatemala City neighborhood. Officials blamed the sinkhole on recent rains and an underground sewage flow from a ruptured main.

The pit emitted foul odors, loud noises and tremors, shaking the surrounding ground. A rush of water could be heard from its depths, and authorities feared it could widen or others could open up.

Rescue operations were on hold until a firefighter, suspended from a cable, could take video and photos above the hole and officials could use the documentation to decide how to proceed.

The dead were identified as Irma and David Soyos, emergency spokesman Juan Carlos Bolanos said. Their bodies were found near the sinkhole, floating in a river of sewage.

Their father, Domingo, was still missing, according to disaster coordinator Hugo Hernandez.

"
None of us sets out to be like everybody else, but it happens. Life begins to squeeze us into a mold until one day we wake up feeling trapped. Unfortunately many people think the answer is to run away, but they only end up making the same bad decisions over and over again. How do you break the cycle and break out of the crowd? Andy Stanley will renovate your thinking by exposing you to four core beliefs that have the power to change the trajectory of your life. Six-part series."

4.22.2007

what door do you choose?

Moment of the day...

Hannah and I had our first Sunday morning service today. My grandfather had a friend at a church up here and so we connected and they told us we could have the full service today. We were excited! We decided to go to Sunday school, and I can't tell you how glad we were!

It's not as good as writing it in words, but the moment of the day had to been sitting in the sunday school classroom waiting for the teacher person. There was some awkward silence in the room with only 4 or 5 people there, so I tried to bring some conversation up, but none was really lasting long. After a few seconds the teacher guy came in and he wasn't too talkative either. As he was getting some stuff together people were still very quiet. I think you could even hear a pin drop it was that quiet. The church gave the feeling that it was pretty conservative. So Hannah and I were just enjoying the awkward silence until all the sudden the guy two seats next to Hannah phone rang... it wasn't just an regular ring... the first words that came out were... "I'm in love with a Stripper..." That song ;) I so wish any of you were there so I could of busted out laughing, but considering we were the guest I kept my head down and acted like I never heard a thing.

It had to been the best moment of the day for me! ;)

***EDIT***
Here is part of the email she wrote:
However, after having a kid and getting married - this is the easiest way to keep in touch with family and friends. Plus, it's great in finding old friends - such as yourself! We're still in Aberdeen, SD. We wanted to stay here until after our son, Tyler, was born. It's sooo crazy that I have a son!!! Anyways, Jake was just recently credentialed with his license to preach and now is in the process of becoming the Youth Alive missionary for South Dakota. WE're excited for all of that to happen. We hope to go to Springfield for training in September, moving to Sioux Falls, and then itinerating for the next year and getting into the schools with the SEven Project. This process feels like it is going to take forever, but I know we need as much time as possible to prepare for what God has for us.

Seriously!!!

So... I asked Mars Hill if Rob would be speaking on the 20th, the Sunday everyone is here...
This lady tells me he is speaking every Sunday that month but that one!!! How in the world!!! So, we could still go up there, just not sure who is speaking!!! Dang it!

4.16.2007

hey guys-
man i could really use your guys' prayers. i know this may seem like not that big of a deal to you guys, but i desperately need to find an apartment. I really can not live out with my parents any more. besides the fact that I'm just a 13-year-old who goes to college (it's how i often feel treated), i can't handle being so far from friends.
i know i'm a pretty independent guy, but i think it's a pretty crucial part of the christian faith to be in community. i have that community once a week and the rest, i'm pretty much on my own. i really want to find an apartment with a christian friend, but every person that i could possibly get a place with from church, it's always fallen through...
yeah, to make it short, i'm amazingly lonely... (feel a little bit vulnerable there...)
anyway, i would really like your prayers...
thanks

4.13.2007

I came so close to giving my two weeks notice today, you have no idea.
I still have to pray about it some more, but I kinda feel like I'm not suppose to - I need to keep on holding out until August. It sucks around here sometimes, sucks living with a crazy person, in a constant state of any moment could put knots in my stomach. I stood and thought today 'I can't believe this is my life, that I'm living this way.' My mom's concerned because it's basically like an abusive situation (not physically) and she doesn't want it to have long-term effects on me. She counseled me to leave today, and I usually take her advice because she's usually right. But...I felt like I was suppose to come; last October when I almost left I felt like I was suppose to stay; and now I have to keep believing God will keep me safely and complete the work He has started here, until I feel released to go. Which I think, I hope with all my heart, is August. Come, August. I have to tell myself "it won't always be this way".

Just wanted to ... I don't know, tell you guys.

Come, May 19

SHOOTER

Last night Hannah and I went to see the movie Shooter, but it was only playing in a theater that was about 30 minutes down the road. I decided to that the highway since we were cutting it close to getting there. Of course I was travelling a few miles over the limit but that's nothing new. There is though this patch of highway that the bridge is being worked on so the limit jumps down to 45. As I was coming up to the area I had one guy pass me so I didn't worry about my speed. As we were going through the construction I knew it was coming up to a one lane road soon so I began passing one guy who pretty slow only to quickly approached the guy who past me prior. I was curious why he now was going so slow around the corner. My gut feeling said COP but my flesh said keep going... as I did I meet the cop around the corner going at least 25 over! Quickly speed down looked behind me to see another car was just as shocked as I was. We slowly got our speed down and I started to merge to slow lane as we were ready to take the one lane road... I kept my eye on the cop but I noticed that after 4 cars past him he came out and started to follow. As I was the leader my stomach knotted very quickly. Speeding in a construction zone is double. I had about a mile to go of one lane road so I knew the cop couldn't speed up to get me till I had gotten out of the construction. In y head I was trying to think if I had enough distance to get off on the next exit before he could reach me... well I didn't. That mile was horrible. I knew for sure he was coming for me. As we began to open to two lanes all the cars started to part and the cop pulled over the guy he was behind! What a relief. I hate that feeling. At least for the next few weeks I am scared enough I won't speed ;)

Hey, shooter was really good too ;)

Friendship with God

Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing . . . ? —Genesis 18:17

The Delights of His Friendship.

Genesis 18 brings out the delight of true friendship with God, as compared with simply feeling His presence occasionally in prayer. This friendship means being so intimately in touch with God that you never even need to ask Him to show you His will. It is evidence of a level of intimacy which confirms that you are nearing the final stage of your discipline in the life of faith. When you have a right-standing relationship with God, you have a life of freedom, liberty, and delight; you are God’s will. And all of your commonsense decisions are actually His will for you, unless you sense a feeling of restraint brought on by a check in your spirit. You are free to make decisions in the light of a perfect and delightful friendship with God, knowing that if your decisions are wrong He will lovingly produce that sense of restraint. Once he does, you must stop immediately.

The Difficulties of His Friendship.
Why did Abraham stop praying when he did? He stopped because he still was lacking the level of intimacy in his relationship with God, which would enable him boldly to continue on with the Lord in prayer until his desire was granted. Whenever we stop short of our true desire in prayer and say, "Well, I don’t know, maybe this is not God’s will," then we still have another level to go. It shows that we are not as intimately acquainted with God as Jesus was, and as Jesus would have us to be— ". . . that they may be one just as We are one . . ." ( John 17:22 ). Think of the last thing you prayed about-were you devoted to your desire or to God? Was your determination to get some gift of the Spirit for yourself or to get to God? "For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him" ( Matthew 6:8 ). The reason for asking is so you may get to know God better. "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart" ( Psalm 37:4 ). We should keep praying to get a perfect understanding of God Himself.
