Christmas with the Kranks...

So how was everyone's day? Filled with food and Toy's R Us toys I hope! I got a lot of candy from Hannah. Yummy.

Any good gifts, or not so good gifts anyone wants to share about?

I think we need to figure out who received the worst gift!!!

12.24.2006

merry christmas ya filthy animals.

yesterday we all went to my aunt and uncles' over in springfield, il to celebrate christmas with them. about halfway through the day my uncle got bored and decided to make a little entertainment for all of the adults. so he calls all my little brothers into the room, aging from 5-12, gives them the dogs shock collar, tells them how to hold it so they "get a surprise" and them tells them to run out as far into the yard as they can. so all of us gather around the big front window, pull up chairs to watch the show and sit there for probably about 30 minutes watching them all take turns getting shocked.

best christmas ever.

12.22.2006

top ten things to say about a christmas gift you don't like

10. Hey! There's a gift!

9. Well, well, well ...

8. Boy, if I had not recently shot up 4 sizes that would've fit.

7. This is perfect for wearing around the basement.

6. Gosh. I hope this never catches fire! It is fire season though. There are lots of unexplained fires.

5. If the dog buries it, I'll be furious!

4. I love it -- but I fear the jealousy it will inspire.

3. Sadly, tomorrow I enter the Federal Witness Protection Program.

2. To think -- I got this the year I vowed to give all my gifts to charity.

1. "I really don't deserve this."

awwww

"OK I'll be his friend but I don't have to like it"

12.21.2006

He also went to a U2 concert...

So right before U2 took the stage, while the lights were still on, they let in a bunch of VIP’s from backstage…this crowd had in it, a bunch of the cast from LOST, Actor Jeremy Pivens (Grosse Point Blank, Old School, and currently the agent onHBO’s Entourage), Kid Rock, Heather Locklear.

go see "blood diamond"
long, but amazing...

12.15.2006

Greetings to ya'll!!!

After Hannah's last post i felt that i needed to spred some sparks of patrioism!!

Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

thoughts

Nolan and I went to Rob Bells church this last sunday and the service really broke my heart. I've never really heard him talk in this way but basically the service was all in statistics. Andy I actually thought of you and thought you would really like it and highly suggest listening to it on their website. These stats are there under the listen section as well. As I am looking through it now I can almost remember everything Rob was saying so I guess I was really into it. I haven't really stopped thinking about any of it since. It was all about how the rest of the world views Americans. He covered a lot on the war and just our resources compared to the rest of the world. If you've listened to the Nooma Rich, it reminded me a little of that, but not really about money in way more detail. These are the stats he was showing take a look and then go listen to it if it sparks an interest. He was explaining a lot of each slide as he was talking. It's changed my thinking for sure.
Go here to read stats.

you guys remember this one?

thanks

Hey,

Thanks for your guys' support. it ment the world.

here's to the future...

so i'm toying with the idea of not being a teacher. you know how i've always considered myself a better writer than a speaker (despite all the spelling mistakes; get off it). well, today i'm talking with one of my professors who has gotten a good idea of how i write. i;m gonna talk to him about just pursuing the whole writing thing.
i feel like a dork, but i think the thing that really got to me was a TV show of all things. you knwo the show "Studio 60"? yeah, well everytiem i watch it, i think how awesome it would be to write for a show like that. not the show in the show, but the actual "studio 60" show tha is on NBC. it's intelligent, well written, clever... ya know...
so yeah... i'll let you know when i'm a famous writer for a hit show.
or i'll just write you guys stories every so often and then you can just tell me that i'm famous...

"Life isn't fair but God's good" - R.H. Schuller

Hey friends,

I've known the guy and his family for the last 10 years. You all know that the church i come from is very small which makes us all family. The last 36 hours has been pretty rough. I've spent most of the time contacting family and friends to inform them about the accident and arranging gatherings at the church. I thought i would get used to calling people but it has only got worse. It's hard to find the balance between being professional and give time for my personal grief. I'm asking God for strenght to be able support his family and the kids in the youth group in the very best way. The guy was one of my sister's biggest fans (=)), which makes it extra hard on her. He drove the motorbike you can se on the picture and hit the side of Jeep in the background. When he arrived at the hospital his head injuries where so hard so the doctors couldn't do anything to save him.

It's hard to realize that life can change so fast. I was hanging out with him 5 days ago and today his dead. It puts everything in a perspective.

(sorry for using this for therapy)

The Fruit Cake Lady

I really enjoyed this...

nice.

Here’s a story worth telling during the holidays. “Mommy farted and tried to hide it and the airplane had to make an emergency landing”. An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing because of just that.

An American Airlines plane made an emergency landing in Nashville after passengers reported the smell of sulphur from burning matches.

The matches were found on the seat of a woman who had attempted to conceal the odour of flatulence with the matches, Nashville airport authorities said. […]

“It was determined that she was trying to conceal body odour,” said Lynne Lowrance of the Nashville Airport Authority.

So, apparently this woman thought that she could get away with lighting matches on an airplane without the passengers or crew catching wind of her sneakiness. Tsk tsk. Maybe this woman needs the flatulence concealing underwear insert?

Isacson Request:

Nolan, could you please post this at our blog? I don't have access to internet so i'm typing this on my phone....
I got a message 8 hours ago that a really good friend of mine, that I've known for several years who's a part of my youth group, had been in a traffic accident. All i knew was that it was serious. So i went to the hospital where i met his parents found out that he had just passed away. I even got to see him. When we where done at the hospital we arranged a gathering at the church. I need your prayers right now. Ya'll know me and knows that this kind of stuff-counsellings emotional stuff... isn't what I'm best at. I need wisdom to handle everything right- his family and friends, funerals, people etc.

Thanks - David

contact buzz

so in my english class yesterday, a kid walks in and sits next to me and goes, "do you know what we're doing today?"

"i think we're just watching that movie"

"oh that would be f-ing great. I'm so high."

at this point i got a whif of him... he wasn't lying.
pretty sure i would have gotten a contact buzz if i had to sit by him much longer...

So...went to see Krystle Bolton last night. Her mom was visiting (and if you guys remember meeting her mom, you can imagine how that was), and Krystle's boyfriend was there. He's 42. She decided not to go to England so that she could move here to be close to her boyfriend. She hates it here. We did'nt get to REALLY talk since we weren't alone, but I just didn't get a very ... optimistic impression. Since she lives nearby, though, we can get together again.

Hmm...

12.04.2006

weird post... but I want to contribute

my abe has crawled up in my lap and started giving himself a bath. Apparently I need one too because in between some of his cleaning he'll start licking my hands and all over my face, even my shirt. It's like he's giving me a bath. Are me and my cat too close?
so i just discovered one of my new pet peeves. you know when you sit in a leather chair and it warms up because of your body heat. well, i just went to shift my weight a little bit and, since the char was warm-ish, my pants seemed to have mysteriously bonded to it. I slid down a little bit, my pants stayed where they were, and i gave my self an uncomfortable little wedgie. yeah... that may be a new pet peeve.
either that or i didn't notice the syrup that had been sloshed all over it previous to my sitting...

also...

I'm sitting in Panera Bread doing home work right now. There is a guy sitting at table in front of me with his dad(?). Anytime the dad gets up to get more coffee, this guy busts into an ongoing rap which must be continuously running through his head. the reason i know this is becaus ehe bobs his head and lips the words. it really is pretty amuzing. no pet peeve in that...

12.03.2006

BOR-ing

I"m tired of looking at those same posts with no new comments, so I'm making a new one. I'm pretty disappointed because some friends and I are going to some big outdoor Christmas carol sing along concert...thing, and everyone's suppose to bring candles and it'll be really cool. And what does one have to bring to somethign like this? A thermos of hot chocolate, of course! So I boil my water and make the hot chocolate and put it in the thermos, only to discover that either the lid is broken or I'm missing a part, so no hot chocolate for me. How sad. Oh well. Last night Elena and I had some girls over and we made a cake and watched a Hallmark Christmas movie, and it was very cozy. I love the Christmas season! Still no snow, but it is colder now, but only in the 40's, 30's at night.

So this was very boring, but at least it's something new. Oh, and you should all go to my website and participate in the number-guessing game, because the winner gets a prize from me in the mail! Well, you may have to participate in next weeks competition, because the dealine for this weeks was today, and there's already a winner. But play next week!!

12.01.2006

the story I told about earlier...

In Durham, N.C., a 4-year-old boy dressed as a Power Ranger and armed with a plastic sword attacked a robber who was pointing a gun at his family. He bravely leapt into his sister's room where the family was being held at gunpoint and screamed, "Get away from my family." He attacked the robbers, swinging his sword and yelling "yah, yah!" Naturally, the robbers fled the scene...

family guy.

one moment to post from the week:
hannah and i are driving down to st louis and along the way we watched shows on the computer and around 12.30 at night we are watching last weeks family guy. if you have ever driven next to someone who is watching something you can always tell what it is because it is so bright... well, this car drove up next to us and gave me the thumbs up... it was two younger guys and they were just laughing along with us at the show. it was pretty funny.

11.24.2006

sorry i haven't written. I'M BUSY.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
doesn't matter, it all tastes the same when you're high

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa's dead, I killed him last year. There's was this fat guy in our
house late one night and he wanted me to sit on his lap. Luckily, I
knew where my dad hides his gun. Speaking of my dad, haven't seen him
in a while...

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Coloured or white? I think I have the right to skip this as any
answer to this question may be seen as racial slur. Besides, I don't
live in a treehouse

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Mistletoe is everywhere in our house, if you know what i'm saying...

5. When do you put your decorations up?
they never come (refer to question 19)

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
refer to question 1

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
(blank. weed does that to you...)

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
refer to question 2

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Only nice kids get gifts

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
Goth style. withered branches, spraypainted black, a spiked collar
around it and with a skull on top

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Love the white, dread the yellow

12. Can you ice skate?
my nickname is bambi.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
refer to question 9

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
that people forgive me even though i'm bad

As I'm a Jehova's Witness, my favorite holiday tradition has been
watching everybody else have a good time

Giving. Even though you'll hurt your knuckles and fists it's NOTHING

giving or receiving WHAT?

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
Christmas Everyday

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yummy?
I avoid them after my cousin told me to swallow them whole

Happy Thanksgiving

Hey guys.

Well Nolan and I are in Missouri now staying with my aunt and uncle. We got in late last night and now re meeting all my cousins. This aunt and uncle have 7 kids and some of them I haven't seen since I was little, so it's interesting. There's lots of kids that will be around here later who I haven't met yet. I hope you guys have a great meal and good time wherever you. Wish we could all be together.

11.22.2006

i feel like this is turning into a random site that me and nolan write on and others occasionally look at...
where are you guys?
i'm officially on thansgiving break adn it feels great. no class for a whole 4 days. its crazy how much i have to do over those 4 days. gotta write 2 papers, study for a math exam, read a bunch, finalize a speech, and work a bunch...

11.21.2006

UPDATE: Rachael.

Well... this past week a new step was made with Rachael. She, with the help of her friends, which would be a first, got in touch with parents to let them know Rachael needed serious help. Through some circumstances she is now moved out of Auburn and in Louisiana. My dads brother lives there and one of his daughters has been really taking care of her. She went into a rehab center Monday. So... what's next.... we will see. My prayer is that she will get to the place where she can see straight and start making wiser decisions and hopefully find truth.

Thanks for prayers, I know this next step in her life is going to be the hardest. Thanks.

11.20.2006

11.19.2006

you know your a redneck...

along the same lines as the redneck stuff... you know your church doesn't cater to visitors much when you sing a song that has the lyrics "jesus touches me quietly"... we sing lyrics all the time that, well... really wouldn't welcome non christians. i enjoy the music time at church... I really do.

in other news.
went to mars hill tonight and listened to Craig Gross, founder of XXXchurch/pastor at Mars Hill. we really enjoyed it and hopefully can make it to more services. worship is actually very enjoyable there.

saw happy feet last night.
great movie. i really enjoyed how the incorporated cartoon/real life. but the message in the movie too was pretty good. I am sure they had some animal activists backing them on this one. it definitely brought attention to the issues surrounding our world today though. i really enjoyed it.

tomorrow....
another monday! woo hoo.

weekend update... tina fey style...

11.18.2006

finally a decent story.

lately i been sick of reading all the junk that is out there in the world. no one ever likes to say anything good. that is why i liked this story.

new place...

if you will recall, i went to check out an apartment the other week. after checking it out, i didn't really want it. then i happen to see on the news that there was a stabbing in the complex.
then i knew for sure.
the land lady called me yesterday asking me if i still wanted it. i told her no cause i didn't want to get stabbed... and pay $700+ for the chance...

11.17.2006

baby update.

yesterday morning baby ali passed away. wes and amanda are doing well, considering what they have been through. their spirits are high and though they are mourning the loss of their twins they are already talking about having more. they said that they cant imagine NOT having twins next time though because they hate having to share one baby. ha. they know that Jesus gave them the girls for a reason and they are happy that they were blessed with the time that they DID have with them. thanks for joining me in prayer guys.

nooma.

went to see the premiere of the new nooma, breathe.

we get there, they give you a sticker, ticket to the show, and ticket for free popcorn and drinks. I think nooma must be doing well. they said they are going for 3 noomas a year to 6 next year. seems pretty exciting. this last one was shot in chicago in the subways.

I think I will be going again when they do this.

11.16.2006

reno action anyone?

i feel kinda wrong by following the last post with this...
but this is pretty funny...

11.15.2006

Rachael.

Hey...
Hannah and I, slash, the Tarantinos have a prayer request...
My sister, as many might know, has taken down her own path of living life to the fullest but to no avail... the latest update is she has maxed out her credit, she has 10 bucks to her name, and she has an eviction notice on her apartment.
There are plenty more details to only show how low her life is, but no need to create it worse than it already is...
It has come down to nothing can change her till she realizes the only answer she has is to recognize her state and find that answer in Christ. She can't let go of the control she has on her life and we are praying that with the circumstances coming she will find this.
We know things are getting worse because for the first time one of her friends, who live this same way say if someone intervene something terrible is going to happen.
Keep her in mind. Hopefully she will realize what she needs to do. Pray if you would, strength for my parents as well. Usually Rach doesn't make the right decisions meaning more pain for the people that love her the most.

thanks guys.

family guy live.

the bus...

so i think i've come to a new epiphany. on my bus ride home, i think i'm going to have with me The DaVinci Code in Danish, which i have, thanks to the ever wonderful Lise.
anyway, my thinking behind it is that whoever sits next to me will see that it's in another language and assume that i dont speak english. thus, my goal will be accomplished which is to be left alone on the bus instead of having to pretend like i am completely enthralled by the conversation about dragons and wizards that met me today...
is that rude? or danish?

I'm not sure if anyone but Mandie or David will connect with me on this one, but the rest of you are missing out.

well.. hannah and I are on our way to go check him out... AGAIN ;) share more later... looking for a nite I prolly haven't had in a while. I want worship.

So, tech Nolan left his camera, I wanted to make this a photo post... but whatever, I left it. We left early making sure we could find the place, get good seats and all that jazz...
Well, as we pull into the church, it's so dark. nothing. I am like crud... did we read it wrong... We didn't. The cars were on the other side, but there weren't many cars at all. Granted we were a few minutes early, but still...
We ended up getting in for a 8 bucks each. Can't beat that. The concert was in this loft room which was really cozy and the had a coffee shop so the mood was right and Ali Rogers opened up and she recorder a live album that night so it was cool to see.
When Shawn came out his manager came up to let us know he was also recording his live album tonight and not to clap during songs and stuff. Him and the band came out and rocked a opener song that lasted forever, then just went into a whole set, he didn't even talked in between songs. After the did the recording then they opened up a lot more. It was definitely a great concert. Just what I was looking for. And I will be looking for the cd...

11.10.2006

hannah and i were going to go see a movie tonight. our choices:
babel
a good year
stranger than fiction.
well thankfully we missed the shows cause we couldn't get there on time. aj just wrote me and told me they went to see babel tonight and it was horrible. i was really looking forward to seeing that. he said there was lots of nudity and no plot.
curious what others say, or let me know if you do end up seeing it. I do know people have their own views on stuff, but it sounds like this one could be not worth the money...

just a fyi.

And thank you so much for praying today! There was a miniscule amount of drama. Still deceit and just..."worldliness" sinful crap which leaves me feeling...bad. But SO much better than it could have been. One day at a time.

And the vet said my dog Jessa probably strained her back, and she'll be ok after a while. *whew*.

It's been a long day and I'm going to bed!

immature, i know.. yet i still laugh...

Attack

So I'm just sitting here on my computor minding my own business. For Andy who has been to our house, I'm sitting on the couch in the tv room and you know the chair next to it... well out of the corner of my eye I see something black and white (abe) bounce off of the chair and flying straight towards my head. By flying I mean arms up and in a flying position and the next thing I know hits me in the head his front arms/legs around my neck biting my ear. So I wrestle him a little and then put him on the ground. He ran away and about 60 seconds later the above has repeated itself. The cat can jump alright.
i just got a letter and a book all in danish from our wonderful friend lise...
it is great.
the letter is huge, and sort of a challenge to read since its all danish, but it's great.
man i miss you guys.
can we all play together this afternoon?
also, my mom is taking my dog to the vet today.
you guys probably know Elena, the girl from the family I work for here, ran away months ago. We've known where she is, and there's been some legal issues and stuff since she's over 18 (but maturity and emotionally like a 12 year old in many ways). Anyway, something bad happened last night and we're all - Doc and the boys and me - going to go and pick her up and bring her home. It's going to be on me to spend time with her - excessively. Doc thinks it's going to be all honkey dorey, he thinks she's going to WANT to be here, once she actually gets here again. But I don't think so. She's been gone for months and has had a sense of independence, and she's going to have some additional issues to deal with because of what happened. This is a lot for me, a lot on me, and to be honest I'm pretty scared. I don't know what's going to happen or how it will go, and Doc is going to expect a LOT of time and stuff from me and... I don't know how to deal with this, with her, with him. I can deal with doc, and I can deal with elena, but when they're together the shit hits the fan and I kinda get stuck between them, since they both want me "on their side" and I understand Elena's point of view on how difficult and wrong Doc can be, but on the other hand I'm Doc's employee and can't really take "her side". I'm just kinda shook up and I really really need you guys to pray for me during this time. Doc gets VERY dramatic, loves drama - bad drama - and I'm dreading tonight when we go to get her. Pray that I'll have wisdom beyond myself every day, and know how to talk to and love Elena, what to say to her and to Doc and to the boys in every situation. I don't feel up to this. Everything is going to change now. I need to be able to see this the right way, as a ministry and the place where God has me and maybe the reason he has me here, and to not be afraid... and I think I need to know how long I should stay here, but maybe that's not for me to know so I need to be content. Pray a lot for tonight, please, for when we go to get her, that it won't be dramatic and she won't be difficult. Everthing will change around here now and I don't feel up to it.

For Lost fans and Matthew McConaughey...
I know this doesn't seem like much after Mandie's prayer request for the babies...
but there's something wrong with my dog, and I don't want to go home for Christmas and have her be dead. I mean I don't want her to die at all any time soon. My last dog died on Christmas. Anyway, even though she's just a dog she's important to me so if you think of it today please pray my dog Jessa is ok! Thanks

Oh man and those are great pictures of us in the snow, it was such a fun day! I always think of it now when I'm at the hooka bar.

And about the japanese site...there's also a site where you can watch movies or shows in Italian, if you happen to be interested in learning Italian! It's here Rai click

I'm going to a Death Cab for Cutie concert tonight. I think we have pretty good seats, so should be fun.
I am sure not everyone will take to this, but to those who miss their tv shows, or don't want to try to find a site to download them at, here is another site, even though it's Japanese subtitles, [ I know its Japanese because AJ taught me how to read Japanese] you can watch right away a lot of shows! I think you might enjoy if you get bored at some point in the day.... Anyways... take it for what it was worth.
